ABOUT

I’m a contemporary artist and colourist based in Winchester, Hampshire. I have a professional background in surface pattern design, including more than 25 years at Peagreen Textile Studio. I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember and I combine my passion for vibrant colour with authentic design.

My painting practise focuses on floral, still lifes and landscapes.

  • In my process I take pleasure in sourcing flowers from local growers, taking time to consider what I am going to paint - the colours, the composition and mark making - and how best to represent the blooms

  • In addition to being in my studio painting still lifes, I love to be outdoors and working plein air. I switch between the the Hampshire countryside, the Dorset coastline, North Yorkshire and the Scottish Highlands where we love to visit. Being outside all year round inspires my work and I’m fascinated by the evolving colour and light of the landscape and trying to capture it on canvas

  • Sketchbook work is really important to me. It’s a place where I can experiment with ideas and make smaller works while I am on the move, many of which inspire me later

  • I currently work in Acrylic, Watercolour, and Gouache to be expressive in the language of colour

I studied at The Scottish College of Textiles from 1992 to 1996, then completed a Master’s degree at The Royal College of Art (1996-1998). My career highlights whilst working at Peagreen include:

  • Regular selection for New York’s Museum of Modern Art prestigious Christmas Card collection, including the global best seller in 2024

  • Collaboration with Gainsborough Silk Weavers to create a ten metre wide contemporary tapestry for Oxford Brookes University, which was nominated for a RIBA award

  • An extensive range of textile designs chosen by brands including The North Face, Nike, J Crew, Boden, John Lewis, Roxy, Habitat and Paperchase
